SCAM ALERT: XOCigs Another Rip Off eCigarette Brand

SCAM ALERT: XOCigs Another Rip Off eCigarette Brand
FacebookTwitterGoogle+DiggReddit

The con artists are at it again. In what looks to be a Saphire/Regal clone, XOCigs is offering pretty much the same god-awful arrangement; $4.95 14-day trial, in which your window to return the thing amounts to mere hours of receiving it, a charge to your credit card of $114.95 should you decide to keep the “trial kit”, and a monthly fee of $74.90 for 10 (ten!) cartomizers.

Then 32 days from your initial order of the product and 30 days thereafter until canceled, you will be sent a new supply of 10 Refill Cartomizers and your credit card will be charged $64.95 + $9.95 (Shipping and Handling) for a total charge of $74.90 (Monthly Fee). Do the math and you realize that this company is charging more for cartomizers than a pack of cigarettes in any major city.

XOCigs Rip Off Scam

The Starter Kit

So, what do you get for this $114.95? Why your XO Cigs Deluxe Starter Kit of course, which includes:

One Battery,

One Atomizer,

One Portable Charging Case,

One USB Charger,

One Wall Charger,

5 Refill Cartomizers (Either High Strength or Medium Strength)

How’s that for a deal? That’s even worse than Bull Smoke for god’s sake.

We will include the usual highlights from the Terms & Conditions below, but if these unconscionable con artists have already bitten you here is some pertinent contact information you might have some difficulty finding elsewhere.

The Corporation behind XOCigs is:

GDX Management

I strongly suggest using maps.google.com and plugging in the address. We did, and were amused at what we found.

There is only so much we can say about these types of ecigarette companies, they are all just cookie-cutter websites selling the cheapest product they can get from China, charging an unbelievably high amount for what amount to no more than a few bucks of crap, and tying their customers up for months while they drain the customers bank account.

Unfortunately, as you can see by the comments left for our Scam Alert for Saphire Cigs, people DO fall for these “deals” and suffer the consequences for months on end.

Will companies like Regal, Saphire, XOCigs, and undoubtedly dozens more ever go away? Probably not. Scams have been a part of human history since the beginning and there will always be people who believe that something that appears to be “too good to be true” are in fact true.

It would be easy to dismiss those that fall for these scams, really easy, so we must keep in mind that there are millions of good people out there that know nothing about electronic cigarettes, have no guidance when it comes to knowing what the costs should be, and when they see a slickly designed website with claims that are wildly untrue they are suckered in.

All any of us can do is alert as many people as we can as to what is really going on in this industry and to help lead people to proper companies selling decent products at decent prices. For Spinfuel’s part, once we publish the information it stays out there, forever. People are still accessing our Regal and Saphire scam alerts months after they were published. (Yet those websites are still up and people are still buying from them, go figure.) Hopefully we can save a few people from making the mistake of trusting in these companies.

Does this sound like a company you want to do business with?

If you know anyone who is currently contemplating a switch from tobacco cigarettes to electronic cigarettes please make them aware that there are predatory companies in this industry looking to scam them for as long as they can. Guide those you know toward sources of good information, products that you personally use, and let them know that they can come to you before they push that “Submit” button on any website/brand they are considering. Together we can make a difference. We can’t save them all, but we can save some. And saving just a few people the nightmare that companies like XOCigs, Regal, and Saphire deliver is worth the time and effort we all put into it. It’s good Karma.

Wow! Wish my husband had seen this site before he signed up. Found out about this company doing this because 114.95 of our rent and electric money was missing from our account. I had my husband contact the company and when he finally got through to them on his fourth try they told him there’s no arguing to be done but that they don’t have to refund our money. Period. He cancelled the “subscription” luckily before they charged us for the 74.90 for the refill. I am on the phone now with our bank cancelling our card and disputing the charge. I will have to wait and see what happens. It makes me sad that people feel the need to take advantage of others, and sadder still that we have to be so cautious.

Make sure your bank understands that you never authorized them to charge your account more than the $4.95 that they said the kit was. Had you known that you were going to pay $144 for a kit that would cost your at most $20 from a reputable dealer you never would have tried their “free” trial. The bank will refund your money when you make it known that it was not a legit company. Good luck! – Tom

I was taken in, also. Can’t get anyone to answer phone. When you go to cancel the monthly scam of 2 cartages for $74, they require a CC number……….Does anyone know what the CC stands for ? Please let me know. It all boils down to changing bank card.

I’m putting all of this on Facebook and asking friends to pass it along, plus Twitter and am just before calling Burbank Police/ Fraud Div.

    Thank all ..

Got me too. The page I read said nothing but “free, just pay shipping and handling”. Then I got charged $114. I took it on the chin and convinced myself that I must not have read the terms and conditions carefully. Then BAM, checked my bank statement tonight and another $75 of my hard earned money is magically gone, presumably for refills of these horrible ecigs, ehich I haven’t even received. Calling my bank in the morning. Anyone have any advice for me as far as actually getting my money back?

Call your bank and tell them you did not authorize the charges. Do you realize you are paying $70 for 10 cartomizers? GOOD cartomizers by reputable companies charge NO MORE than $2 a cartomizer. Return the whole thing, demand your money back, and spend a fourth of the amount on something good, like Halo Cigs G6 or 777 eCigs, both are hundred times better than this crap! – Julia Barnes

Update: Thanks Julia. I called xo this morning. I was told that since the refill cartomizers have not yet been shipped I can cancel my membership and I will be refunded the $74 charge and my refills will not be shipped. I told them I wanted to return the starter kit and be refunded as well for that but the guy told me too much time has passed and I can not do that. He also told me that if I have the bank refund me the money they will show the bank that I did sign up for this program and I will face cow til s from the bank. He also told me he would shoot me an email confirmation of my cancellation and refund for the $74 right away. It’s been about 2 hours now and I haven’t received that.

You need to call your bank and either try to stop any further charges or cancel the card number and get a new one. These guys will make it VERY difficult for you to get out of paying that $120+ dollars, so act now. Call the bank first, then proceed to deal with XO, cause they will grab your money as soon as they can and it will take forever to get it back. – Julia

Yeah i was sent an email that i qualified for a free xocig e-cigarette for only the cost of shipping and handling. I had no idea it was a 14 day trial period and would be billed $114 after that time and an additional $75 or so a month for 10 cartomizers that taste terrible and only last for a few hours tops. So you’re saying that sending it back and trying to contact them is basically pointless? That i might as well not even pay the postage and just go to or contact my bank and tell them to block the payments or if they can’t do that just cancel my card and get a new one?

Basically yes. Now, you don’t want to try and rip them off, even though they probably deserve it, so do try to send it back. But from all the people we hear from you’ll never get it back in time for them to not charge you that $114 and at least one shipment of the $75 cartomizers. So, call the bank and explain it to them, best option if you can do it is to cancel the card number and get a new one, and then call the company, tell them you cancelled the card and you would like to send the starter kit back. That way you don’t harm your Karma, and they don’t get the chance to rip you off. – Julia (Spinfuel is VERY big on Karma)

I just ordered the xocig on 5/15/13 and recieved it on 5/20/13. First of all one of the cartomizers doesn’t even work and the cig tastes nasty. I figured oh well it was 5 bucks. So its now only 5/22/13 and i’m online searching for different e-cigs and i see this website about the scam. Im sending it back today to the return address and also emailed them about canceling immediately, i emailed support@xocigs.com. Does anyone know if that’s going to stop them from billing me the $114 or should i just go right to my bank to cancel my card?

I called my bank and had my debit card cancelled before they could scam me and my bank will be sending me a new card, so if nothing else you can do that just to be sure you are safe. hope this helps

Well, they got me too. I am unemployed so this offer to try and break my habit seemed great. Needless to say I just got home from the bank, canceled my card and jumping thru hoops now to get my money back. The old saying “If it sounds too good to be true” stands true.

I love how one of the testimonials at the bottom of XO’s website says “I have three grandchildren and one great grand daughter…” yet the picture attached is of a women FAR to young to have a GREAT grand daughter, let alone grand daughter. That alone right there should tell you that that site is a scam. Also they say it is real testimonials. That is illegal right there. They HAVE to put something near the testimonials that say they are NOT real testimonials if they are not, and they clearly are NOT real on the XO site, or any of those sites. They also have to put RISK-FREE or low risk or something like that on the page if they plan on doing the whole charge you after a certain amount of days but you only pay shipping upfront. Trust me, I used to work on a site selling a product(no it wasn’t a scam, but it did have the 30 day charge only pay shipping, clearly labeled on our site though), that is the rules, the law rather. So I suggest everyone go after them for those reasons as well.

I am a bit upset with myself because I normally don’t fall for these scams. I guess it coming up on a Google site made me feel safe about the deal. I did look around on the page for terms and conditions to see if it was a scam but I guess the terms were on the previous page and I missed them. I did a Google search “XO e-Cig scam” but this post was not made yet and all I could find was good things about the cig. Once I received the e-cig I took one puff and it was nasty but hey, I only paid 5 bucks for it so no harm done. WRONG!!! Now I am being charged with $114 for sometime I am not even going to use.

Yes I fell for the scam myself! Some adware attached its self to my browser and popped up as a surveys on Google’s homepage. I do voluntary work for Google so its not the first time they have asked me to do a survey. Once I completed the survey it offered some free items “just pay shipping and handling”. Well 14 days later xo cig hits my bank for $114 dollars and plan to hit me for $80 each month for refills. This is not what I signed up for and worse yet the e-cig is the worst one I have tried yet. I called up there and threatened to dispute the charge with my bank and even lawyer up if I had to and they said they would refund me in 2-5 days. Lets see if they do what they say they will!
